Editors Note - Where I've been

I would like to welcome all the new subscribers, and a warm hello to all. Without you my efforts wouldn't have much meaning and would be in vain.

As many of you know, I was kept offline for a couple of years due to personal and health problems. I was able to re-emerge early in 2005. Knowing the speed at which things can and do change online, I knew I had some catching up to do. But then since most of us are marketing to people, there are certain basics that will always stay the same.

Using my 2 hours a day online I put together my site, did research, and recruited a team of over 500 in less than 4 months. That's not bragging, that just reminds me that some of what I knew still worked. I have imersed myself into "playing catch up" over the last few months, and my newsletter suffered for it. Though I did manage to post enough articles and meaty content to more than cover for it... (wink)

I hope to have the newsletter back on schedule now. My "intensive studies" are behind me now. I have chosen a destination, and a direction to take to get me there.

NOW! On to plenty O freebies!....

Newbies Corner - Starting a Home Business - Finding the Right One for You !
By: Gary Dunaway

OK, you've made the decision to start your home business. Great idea ! But..... what do you do now ? I hope that this article will be of great help to you. My years of successful internet marketing have helped many new business owners achieve success. It is my hope to do the same for you.

1. Find the right business. One that will be in demand in the years to come. You want a product or service that is honest, consumeable, and offers great value. You may think that your idea for your home-based business is unique. But unless you do some market research, you won't know whether or not your market is already saturated, or whether there is even a strong demand for it.

2. Create a dedicated, quiet office area. You can't run a business from your kitchen table. A successful business requires a fully equipped home office. If you have an extra bedroom, consider converting it into office space. If you do not have an extra room in your home, try setting up a partition to create an office area. Keep in mind that this area will be tax deductible as well. Also this area should be free of distractions that will keep you from working your business as you should.

3. Develop and maintain an aura of professionalism. One of the perks of running a business from home is having the option of working in your pajamas, but your customers should not be able to tell that you just rolled out of bed. Maintain normal office hours and a professional demeanor when answering your phone or dealing with customers.

4. The old saying " what happens when you don't advertise ? Nothing ! " is very true in a home based business. Just because you build it doesn't necessarily mean they will come. To be successful, you will need to advertise your new business. Advertising and marketing don't have to be expensive, but they have to be done. I can show you ways to advertise your business at little or no cost.

5. Consider the amazing tax advantages of your home based business. Almost everything you purchase in relation to your business is deductible. Driving to meet a prospect ? Deduct your gasoline. Take a prospect to lunch ? It's deductible. All of your advertising, all of your office supplies, your cell phone...... and so on. I can show you how to reduce your tax bill substantially every year.

6. Set a schedule and keep it. The allure of working from home is powerful -- but so is the appeal of spending more time with your family or taking a nap in the middle of the day. Setting a schedule for your workday and sticking to it is critical.

7. Develop a business plan. Where do you want your business to be in six months? How about in five years? Many small business owners mistakenly think that a business plan is only necessary if they are going to have investors. But businesses of all sizes can use a business plan as a roadmap to success.

8. Use the Internet . The Internet is the single best way for a home-based business to reach out to prospective customers. If you aren't a Webmaster, look for a business with a professionally built website that can function as an online brochure for your company.

9. Look for an honest product or service that people truly need. One where you will find the satisfaction of helping others, while also seeing success in your business. An area that I have focused on recently is the health care industry. This industry is in a state of total chaos in this country. Companies and corporations are going bankrupt due to overwhelming health care costs. This industry is changing to consumer driven benefits plans that people can afford. I suggest you take a moment to look at these, as they are the future in health care. 70 % of Americans, for example, have no Dental care.

10. Make a commitment of 2 - 4 years. Once you have found the business that is right for you, you must stay focused. Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will your business be.

Don't get discouraged. Many businesses fail simply because their owners got discouraged after a disappointing trial period. You will have to show grit and determination to make your business succeed. Hang in there and do all that you can to make your business the success you know it can be.

If you continue to plant the seeds of your business, you will eventually see them harvested. Most likely it won't happen over night. Build your business for the long haul. It will pay off. One thing to keep in mind through everything is this , it's YOUR BUSINESS ! Don't treat it like a hobby or childs play. It can be wildly profitable for you.

Marketing - Making Money With Niche Products
By: Duane Marx

This is a basic guide to help you make money with niche products.

And to make this very easy let's sell a digital or information product in any 'niche market' of your choice. OK let's get started.

First you need to find a product to sell and there are a number of different ways to do this. You could join a monthly club that creates niche products.

Another way is to buy resale rights to niche products.

And of course you could create your own niche products or have a ghostwriter do it for you.

After you have your niche product you will need a domain name. Try to think of a few different names because your first choices may not be available. Choose a short name and it will be easier for people to remember. If possible get a domain name ending with (.com) You should also try to get a name to match your product. And maybe use keywords in your domain name to get a better listing on search engines.

And you will need a hosting company. The purpose of hosting company is to keep your website running properly. They will make sure everything is working properly so your customers can navigate through it and buy your product or service. So this is a very important responsibility. You may find some free hosting companies, but you really do get what you pay for. So it may be better to use a paid hosting company.

Also when you start promoting and selling some of these services you can make some extra money too.

You'll need an autoresponder to send out emails automatically. You can automate a lot of your every day business tasks leaving more time for you to concentrate on more important things like marketing and promoting your products. With an autoresponder you can send out email advertisements to everyone on your list at predetermined intervals, automate the delivery of several different mini courses all at once, send out sequential emails automatically whenever someone buys one of your products, have all of your digital products sent out automatically and collect names and email addresses and add them to your list of customers and much, much more.

To collect money for your products you will need a payment processor. Make sure that you accept credit cards because most transactions will be made with them. But you should also consider other options as well, like accepting checks and money orders. And you may want to use PayPal and ClickBank. The more ways you can collect money the more sales you'll make.

Now let's get to the good part.

What I like to do is create a free report that I can give away on my website. And inside this free report are links back to the niche product I'm selling.

Now you'll want to create sales letters/websites to promote your products. I like to use Microsoft Word and Dreamweaver. If you don't have any experience in this area then make sure you read my amazing secret at: http://www.direct-profits.com/AmazingSecret.htm to get a jump start on your competition.

You'll also have to create some download pages but it'll be easy with a little practice.

Now once your websites are set up then you will want to send as much targeted traffic to your free report website as possible. Then everyone can download your valuable information and once they start reading it they will want to rush out and buy your main product.

Now there are lots of ways to get traffic to your websites and you'll want to use as many as you can. You can use Pay Per Click ads with the search engines, put ads in ezines, buy banner ads on other sites, use classified ads online and offline, when you sell something on an auction site have a link on your about me page, links from other sites, try to get high listings on search engines, set up joint ventures, buy guaranteed visitors, and write articles. More traffic equals more sales.

Try to get as much traffic as you can - but never spam. You will get into a lot of trouble and your reputation will be tarnished. So never send emails to anyone unless you have their permission.

To help increase sales make sure your websites include the following information: a limited time offer, testimonials, bonuses, and a strong guarantee.

After you get everything in place and you are getting traffic you will want to test a lot of different things to try to improve your sales as much as possible.

Then you'll be ready to pick another niche product and set it up the same way. It should be a lot easier and faster with the second product. And keep adding more products. You'll want to cross promote your products to make even more money.

So that's the basics and the more you can learn about writing good sales pages and writing killer headlines and learning different marketing techniques then the more sales you'll make. So try to spend some time everyday learning and improving your internet skills.

Discover how you can get a copy of my 'Proven Ezine List'. And have your website promoted for a full year. Both are free for a limited time. Hurry visit: http://www.direct-profits.com

Computer Tip - Hard drive crash prevention and recovery tips
By: Michael Cottier

The hard drive in our computers right now stores all of our data, and our computer could not function without it. There would be no World Wide Web, email or even an operating system without hard drives. Since hard drives are so important, a hard drive crash is without a doubt the biggest problem that someone could face on their computer.

Hard drive crashes can happen for many reasons, and usually the owner is not to blame. One reason your hard drive can crash is because of a hard ware problem. See your hard drive is a magnetic disc that spins and has an extended arm hovering over it, to access any area, and collect the data. If the motor overheats and stops spinning or the arm fails to function, then your hard drive will crash and not be accessible at all.

Another way for your hard drive to crash is from corrupt system files, registry files and viruses. Viruses come in many forms as spy ware, ad ware, in emails and many other places all over the web. I recommend a good virus protection program from McAfee or Norton to stop those viruses and prevent your hard drive from crashing.

Now let's say your hard drive has crashed, how do you determine the problem and can it be fixed? Well determining whether the hard drive crash is mechanical of software related is actually pretty easy. The flashing light on front of your computer case, that blinks when the computer is busy, is a good tool to determine the problem. If you see the LED light flashing, but the computer will not boot up, then most likely it is a software related problem, which means an operating system glitch or a virus of some sort. Lucky for you this usually can be fixed and all of your files can be saved, but I recommend only letting a professional try and fix it since the average person might find it to difficult unless they have experience in formatting hard drives.

Worst case scenario is if you don't see the LED light flashing in the front of your computer case, this means your hard drive has not activity which basically means it is a mechanical problem. A mechanical problem in your hard drive can be fixed, but I imagine it is pretty expensive. It is cheaper to get a new hard drive then to fix it, but of course if you have important data stored on the broken hard drive that you must get back, then you really have no choice but to have a professional fix it. You local computer store should have the expertise to repair it, but if not just ask them who can.

I should point out also though, that advanced hardware and software standards in today's hard drives tell you when your drive is about to crash and gives you time to back up your important files.

Overall, the best way to stop your hard drive from crashing is to not neglect it and take care of it. The most important care tip is to make sure you defragment your hard drive at least once a month. Your operating system should come with a defragmenting program that is easy to use. Performing a defragment on your hard drive basically takes your data and organizes it into more convenient places so that the mechanical arm can access data faster and with the least amount of movement.

Another way to protect your hard drive from crashes is to purchase a good virus scanner, preferably by McAfee or Norton, and keep protection tools enabled and perform a full system scan of every file on your hard drive once a month.

Some other minor precautions that you can take are to enforce a SPAM guard on your emails and delete your temporary internet files every once in awhile. You should also keep your operating system up to date by downloading updates for it as soon as they come out. Windows makes this easy, but I am not sure how easy other operating systems make this or if they even provide this option.

If you are a person who downloads a lot of files from the internet, then you need to exercise caution in what you choose to download, as hard drive crashes are commonly associated with faulty software from unknown sources on the net.

Of course the best way to save you a headache if a hard drive crash happens is to back up your data regularly. Data loss is the reason a hard drive crash is so hurtful, so if you back up your data daily or whenever you work on it, then if a crash happens you will have no sweat on your back. I recommend you save your files to a rewritable CD/DVD or floppy disc as soon as you get done working on it, especially if the data is business related.

Website Article - Web Design - The Basics
By: Mark Nenadic

For your website to be successful, it has to contain the proper web design. This isn't too hard if you've been designing websites for years and have had the time and experience to perfect your technique, but for everyone else, web design can seem somewhat daunting. Don't worry, though, it doesn't have to be. Just remember that using common sense, and applying your own taste are the best things that you can do for your web design strategy.

However, just because you think your site looks good, doesn't mean that your visitors will read it. Nor does it mean that they will come back a second time. Therefore, web design only starts with your own taste, and must also include other techniques that will ensure continued success.

There are five basic things that you need to look at to develop your web design strategy. They are as follows:

1. Your Website Title - Every successful website must first have an excellent title. A truly great title needs to be interesting, catchy, and applicable. "Bob's Website" isn't exactly the most attractive way to make a first impression. The title is, after all, the first words that will catch the visitor's eye. If the title doesn't work for your readers, they won't click it on the search engines, and they won't stick around if they arrive at the site. Give yourself time to brainstorm great website title ideas, asking friends and family for inspiration, and using a thesaurus for some dazzling words.

2. Columns - The number of columns used within your web design will alter the entire perception of your website. The standard first website will usually have a rather plain layout, consisting of only one column, however, the majority of readers actually prefer two-column pages to allow for written content in one column, and navigation links within the other. This web design is much more attractive, and makes navigation throughout your website much easier. Though the three-column website does have its fans, it is not necessarily any better than the one- or two-column web designs. However, if you have a great deal of complexity to your website and you need additional navigation options, or if you need additional writing space, then the extra column might work well for you.

3. Colors - Although it might seem that colors are among the simplest decisions that you need to make for your web design, once you get started, you may find that it's more challenging than you first thought. Colors are very important to the overall appearance of your website, and will influence people's decisions to find out what your site has to offer, and their decision to return. If your website design is bland, it will make people believe that your website is dull. If the colors are too bright and are hard on the eyes, staying at the website will feel unpleasant. If the colors are warm and comforting, making the customer feel at home, they are more likely to feel that they like your site, and will stick around and return more frequently.

4. Navigation - When building your web design, don't forget that navigation will be key to allowing visitors to properly benefit from your site. The key is consistency and easy access. Every page on the website should link back to the homepage so that visitors don't get lost among the different pages of the site and finally give up and go elsewhere. You'll also need some sort of index which appears in the same way on every page, so that users will always know where to look when they want to head to the next page of interest.

5. Content - When it comes to web design, content is among your most important features. If your content isn't good, nobody will have any reason to visit your site. Among other site-specific pages, your content should include a minimum of a homepage, which tells visitors what your site is about, and why they'd want to visit. An "about us" page is also advisable, telling visitors who you are and why you've got the website. Use this space to show people that you know your stuff, and they can trust your site for reliable information and resources. When visitors understand you better, they'll feel more comfortable visiting your site.

Most importantly, don't just follow a template, do something new, and keep it fresh. People won't want to keep visiting a site that never changes. They want to see updates, or they won't have any reason to return. The more often you update your site, the longer people will spend visiting your site in order to keep on top of things. Once a week is ideal, but once a month should be your bare minimum. When it comes to web design, you have to be up to date!

Networkers Corner - The Real Goal Of Network Marketing
By: Donovan Baldwin

Her name is Jessica and she is a single mother in Georgia. She is engaged and living with her fiance, but she has 2 kids she wants to take care of and she wants them to know their mother. She wants to be there for them and with them. She wants to raise them as once kids were raised...as she was not raised. Her fiance has a good job, but with 2 kids and one on the way, it's hard to make ends meet sometimes. We know, we've been there.

The clutch went out on her fiance's truck last week, the one vehicle he has to get him back and forth to work. He's just been promoted into a management training program with Wal-Mart, and he really didn't need this right now. She's pregnant again, but she also works and needs her beat up old jalopy her grandmother helped her buy to get to work herself.

The initial estimate was $800.00. They had no idea of where they could get that kind of money. Even when they got a few other, lower, estimates and got the work done (it wasn't the clutch after all), the bill came to over $400.00. They couldn't really afford it, but they had to have the truck running.

How do I know all this?

She's in my downline.

I went online and checked her stats first. Then I gave her the news. She had a check coming for $57.00 that week, and the week after that, she was going to get $377.00. She had already earned $117.00 for the following week. It's a shame that she can't use it for something else, but it takes care of the car expenses, and between her and her fiance's pay, they'll do okay.

Okay, an average of $600.00 to $700.00 a month might not be much to some internet marketers, but to them, it's the difference between disaster and "everything's okay."

I got her, and Jay, and Donna, and Ruth, and Sarah, and others into internet marketing, and they're the success stories. John and Joseph and Shawna and Celestine didn't do that well. I couldn't help them. I did what I could for them, but for whatever their personal reasons and circumstances, they didn't make it.

A few years ago, I was a truck driving instructor with a major national carrier...big orange trucks with the owner's name on 'em. Every two weeks I met a new group of people, about half of whom had hit bottom or were trying to get back up before they got that far down. Many wouldn't make it. Some would give it their best shot and fail. Some could learn what I was trying to teach without breaking a sweat. Some could handle the driving but not the classroom, and some were, as my son used to say, a "cool breeze" in the classroom but hopeless around the truck.

Sometimes it hurt. I was often handed the really nervous, and the really hopeless...and sometimes the damned dangerous...because I could remain calm when they were going to pieces...sometimes at 60 miles-per-hour on the interstate. Hence the CB handle an ex-special forces/Philly cop pinned on me which I use as a handle in forums sometimes...teflondon. My nickname before that was Sergeant. A lot of times I was working with someone who was being given one last chance, and a lot of times they really had nothing to go home to. I always tried to do my best, but sometimes my best wasn't good enough. Sometimes I had to walk 'em upstairs to Charlie, my boss, and sit there while he gently gave them the news. Sometimes they took their anger out on us and blamed us...some yelled, some cursed, every once in a while, one got violent. Sometimes they smiled and were really polite and acted cheerful although you could feel the strain. Sometimes they just broke down and cried. Talk about rejection.

But sometimes, an ex-student would come back in to the Training Center looking for me, or the instructor who trained him or her. I remember Martin in particular. When Martin arrived at the school, he had clothes in two conditions...bad and worse. His shoes were literally falling apart. He showed me a picture of his beautiful wife and two gorgeous children. He had not had a job for over 6 months. He was glum and desparate. He had a lot of problems in the classroom, and wasn't much better in the truck, but he refused to give up. I could see him in spare moments walking around somebody's truck naming the parts to himself. A few weeks after he graduated, I met him at one of our facilities. He was wearing all new clothes, and he was smiling and happy. He shook my hand and thanked me for helping him make money like he had never made before. He was now proud of himself and able to take good care of his wife and children.

Can you imagine the feeling? To have made that much of a difference in someone's life simply by showing them how to do a job and do it well?

Yes, someone in network marketing or internet marketing is out to make money, just like I collected a salary for teaching those people back then. However, when the failures get you down, if you can remember someone you have helped achieve their dreams or lighten their load, you can find a reward more valuable in many ways than the money you earn.

There are lots of reasons to have your own internet marketing business. I can make a couple of phone calls and have a pretty good job before 48 hours has passed, but I am in internet marketing because I like being able to make the money I make working the way I want to work, at home, without bosses, on my schedule.

One of the other perks is the feeling I get when I know I have helped start someone on the same path I have traveled, and maybe, by sharing some of my experiences or skills, making that path a little easier to travel.
